Big weekend for ACMMA fighters at New Breed Figthers MMA event in Atlantic City at the House of Blues.! A big congratulation to Troy Maxwell for winning the heavyweight title against Jay Silva. Alan Wright defeated Neil Marron in the first round with a kesa-gatame choke hold for a submission victory. Honorable mentions goes to Josh Merino for stepping into the cage for the first time.

Carl D'Alessandro was promoted to Muay Thai level 1 Instructor on February 23, 2008. Elvin Rodriguez, Steve Santangelo, Jim Vo, and John Thorton were tested in a 12 round grueling Muay Thai exam the same day and earned their Muay Thai fight shorts February 23, 2008. John Thorton was promoted to Purple Belt in Gracie Brazilian Jiu-jitsu on March 1, 2008. Awesome job!

ACMMA is excited to see Doug Anderson from Fight Quest, who currently trains in the Philly location, to go to Brazil and learn from the master himself Rickson Gracie. Doug Anderson will be learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from the Gracie family. Also, a big congratulations to Chris Antonucci for receiving his purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from Joe Diamond. Chris has been study BJJ for about 3 years and has progressed quickly. He is an explosive technician, escape artist and learns quickly.

Troy was getting slammed repeatly but weathered the storm and got in a tight armbar from the guard to secure a win by tapout in the second round. Due to the success of last year's BJJ Camp in Brazil (see student testimony below), I decided to continue with this effective way of teaching Jiu-Jitsu and do another camp in Brazil this year on July 21-28. The BJJ Camp is located in Angra dos Reis, Brazil, a gorgeous beach resort with more than 300 surrounding islands, and only 1.5 hours drive from the famous city of Rio de Janeiro. Here is the testimony from one of our students who participated in the first camp:
"I participated in Professor's first Angra Jiu-Jitsu camp in the summer of 2006. I have trained in Brazil on 3 different occasions and I have also attended a camp ran by another Professor of Jiu-Jitsu. I enjoyed Luiz's camp very much. The details of the camp were very well organized. The training was incredible. We basically had a seminar each of the 7 days. It was fun to interact with the Brazilians that were from Angra as well as those that were brought from Rio to train with us. Although the training was exhausting, the house we stayed in was comfortable, the food was terrific, and the landscape, very beautiful and relaxing. Here are some details that make this camp different:
* There were plenty of Brazilians to train with. Sometimes you go to a camp and only train with other Americans. Here there are plenty of tough Brazilians to train with. We had 4 black belts, 5 brown belts, several purples and several blues to train with on a daily basis.
* The food is home cooked traditional Brazilian cuisine. No restaurant food here, unless you want it.
* The house was comfortable and right on the ocean!!!!!!!
* We all train with Luiz. But at the camp Luiz is largely the translator and Claudio Fontes is the instructor. The techniques have a different "flavor" to them.
* You are in safe surroundings. Angra is safe compared to other locations in Rio state. I highly recommend this camp to people at all levels of Jiu-Jitsu. There is no doubt that it will benefit your Jiu-Jitsu game and will also provide a lasting cultural experience."

Joe Diamond suffered a broken right hand at the beginning of round two rendering in the verbal submission. This fight was definitely a crowd pleasing brawl with thunderous punches thrown by both fighters.
